What criteria are used to allocate places at the Center for Social Competence?
The following criteria will be used in the allocation of places:
- We aim to allocate at least one course to as many students as possible. Applications for more than one course will not be prioritized, unless students participate in mediation training and the master module KIK.
- We also aim to offer places to students of curricula that list center courses as mandatory electives.
- We have a fixed number of places from students from TU Graz.
Regarding places for students of the University of Graz, we aim to distribute places proportionately by schools or “Faculty”.
Students from other universities may be allocated remaining free places. - Students not considered in previous semesters will be prioritized next time if possible.
- Students who dropped out of a course in a previous semester without proper notification will be blacklisted in future allocations.
What must I do if I cannot attend the course or a session?
If you are prevented from attending, please cancel your registration in UGO immediately so that your place can be assigned to someone else. This applies to both fixed places and waiting list places. Failure to do so may get you blacklisted.
What happens if I do not attend a scheduled without proper notification or agreed leave?
Absences without leave will get you blacklisted for the following semester.
How do I get my certificate?
Individual course grades are entered into student records. Once you have completed courses at the Center amounting to workloads of at least eight semester hours (12 ECTS), you can apply for a cumulative certificate at the center, up to a maximum of 2 times. This means we will issue you certificate for course completion of 12 ECTS and potentially another 12at the end of your studies at the center for additional courses completed.
Do the grades for each course show up on the certificate?
No, individual grades of successfully completed courses at the Center for Social Competence are not listed. Generally, the certificate shows "Participated with success." Only if all individual grades are top grades, this will indicated in the certificate as "Participated with very good success". The following information is included in the certificate: Title of the course, course instructor, semester (when attended), course hours, and ECTS points.
Who teaches at the center?
About 25% of the lecturers are full-time university teachers, and 75% are external lecturers with equivalent professional qualifications. The Center for Social Competence relies on the quality and professionalism of its lecturers (only in German). Our interest is not only their academic excellence but also their teaching skills to convey and promote specific dimensions of social competence using effective methodologies. Therefore, we primarily select external lecturers on their track records as trainers and consultants. Full-time university teachers work as lecturers in professionally renowned continuing education programs and fully qualified as practitioners in their field (group dynamics, organizational development, etc.). In addition, relevant training, publications, and successful university teaching experiences are essential criteria. A detailed list of all lecturers can be found in the current course program.
What about credits?
According to current curricula, courses can be credited as free electives. Besides, some studies credit them as mandatory electives, e.g. pedagogy and combined studies. Check your curriculum or ask the chair of your curriculum committee. Students who want to excel with additional qualifications in "social competences" on the CVs can acquire valuable and recognized qualifications here.
