Background:
“Argentina faces a dilemma between exploiting its lithium potential and protecting its natural and cultural heritage. It is also concerned about becoming the site of geopolitical manoeuvres by Australia, China, Japan, South Korea and the US who all have stakes in the industry through companies operating out of them. The resolution of this dilemma will depend on finding a balance between economic development and environmental justice, as well as fostering inclusive and participatory decision-making processes that involve all stakeholders.”
The simulation will involve preparations, advising the government on how to lay out a process to address the issues in negotiations, as well as multi-party role-play. We would want to recruit students for a Friday afternoon online course on January 12th or 19th. Applications are welcome by January 9th by email to norbert.berger(at)uni-graz.at.
We search for up to 15 participants (third or final year undergraduates, postgrads, postdocs) and also up to 5 volunteer mediator trainees to potentially mediate the negotiation process among the parties involved.
